Winter Solstice Concert

The Four Seasons: Winter Solstice

Performances are Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 7:30 PM at The Franco Center, 46 Cedar St. in Lewiston and Sunday, January 21, at 3:00 PM at Studzinski Recital Hall, Bowdoin College, Brunswick.

The music for Winter Solstice heavily evokes both the wildness of nature and the cultivated aspects of the season. Stephen Paulus’ “Evensong” and “Auld Lang Syne” are seasonal while other pieces highlight the extreme beauty of northern landscapes. Ērik Eŝenvalds’ “Northern Lights,” Ola Gjeilo’s “Tundra,” “Winter Light” for chorus and string quartet by Michael Gandolf and John Muehleisen’s “Winter Light” create a vivid, wintry landscape for the audience.

Featured instrumental performers include Virginia Flanagan – harp, Sam Schuth – violin, Tracey Jasas-Hardel – violin, Evan Cuddy – Viola, Shannon Allen – Cello, Steven Weston – flute, Amy Maier – piano, and Peter Stuart – Trumpet.

Vox Nova Chamber Choir (Est. 2009) under the direction of Dr. Shannon M. Chase, champions the expansive body of modern and contemporary choral repertory. The Chamber Choir is comprised of 32 adult singers and Intima is a small group of 13 singers from within Vox Nova Chamber Choir.
