Shannon Chase

Dr. Shannon Chase, originally from Augusta, holds advanced degrees in choral music from The Florida State University and The University of Maine and a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from The University of Southern Maine. Chase taught choral music grades 6-12 in Camden, Maine prior to pursuing graduate studies and a collegiate teaching career.

She studied conducting under Rodney Eichenberger, Andre J. Thomas, Dennis Cox and Robert Russell and has sung under Helmuth Rilling, Robert Shaw and Sir David Wilcox among other notable conductors. Dr. Chase served on the music faculties of the University of Oregon, Bowdoin College, Colby College and Rutgers University, Mason Gross School of the Performing Arts.

Her professional conducting and teaching experience spans public school education, university and college, private and professional programs, state regional and national professional organizations, church and community music programs.

Shannon returned to Maine in 2013 to take up Vox Nova full-time with the goal of building a larger, professional non-profit program dedicated to the performance of modern and contemporary music. Vox Nova Choral Consort is the culmination of that effort. VOX NOVA expanded in 2017 from one to four choirs and added an instrumental chamber consort.

Chase is the newly appointed Chorus Master for Opera Maine. An active singer-performer and vocal pedagogue, she teaches private voice in the West Bath and Gardiner.
